Avoid These Self-Development Mistakes If You Want to Be Rich

Self-development to be rich is a struggle that requires meticulous planning, cautious execution, and profound contemplation. When you develop yourself to achieve a wealthier life, you may stumble upon various problems, some of which come from some external factors, but some problems arise from yourself—from mistakes that you intentionally or unintentionally make. If you don’t want to make too many mistakes that will certainly hamper your journey to achieve success, be sure to beware of some common self-development mistakes below.

You Fail to Focus on Your Strengths.

Many people are simply so engrossed in feeling bad about their weakness that they forget to focus on their strengths in their self-development effort. When you are hanging out with colleagues and doing some casual or formal activities with them, you may reveal some weaknesses that make you feel embarrassed, such as not knowing the number of countries in the United Kingdom or losing your tennis serve three times in a row. If you think that these kinds of weaknesses are not very essential for your self-development effort to be rich, why should you be too engrossed in them? Even if your life consists of 80 percent of weaknesses and 20 percent of strengths, focusing on the later is much better than despairing about the former. Even if you have weaknesses that hamper your progress, fixing them is not the only option available for you. If you cannot fix them, you can just delegate them or make a specific plan that helps you avoid them.

You Are Unable to Identify Essential Weaknesses.

Although focusing on your strengths is generally better than tormenting yourself with your weaknesses, you should understand that some weaknesses are considered essential and do need fixing. Your inability to respect the time, your tendency to procrastinate, and your inability to plan your life are a few examples of essential weaknesses that you should fix soon. They are burdens that will constantly drag you from making progress, so fix them before they cause too much trouble to your life and your effort. If help is needed to overcome them, don’t hesitate to get one because doing everything yourself is also considered a mistake that many people commit.

Your Many Goals Distract You.

It is quite normal for a person to pursue many goals, but if you have too many goals, you will end up being too distracted to make real achievements. You have to understand the difference between diversification and having too many goals. You indeed need to diversify to avoid putting all eggs in the same bag, but you also need to prioritize your goals so that you can decide which goals should become your priorities. If you have—say—20 goals, pick 5 that you regard as the most important and then focus on them. Your failure to make priorities on your goals will prevent you from making significant progress in your self-development effort. In fact, it may lead you to a total failure due to your inability to accomplish any goals.
